We all love to swoon and enjoy a fancy meal at a fancy restaurant, especially to celebrate a memorable occasion.
The online page and online app Eat This, Not That have compiled a list of the most expensive restaurants in the state. I went through the entire list and identified and frequented some of the restaurants on the list.
Make no mistake, these are restaurants with impeccable service and impressive cuisine, but the price of a meal at one of those restaurants is exorbitant.
Here are the maximum restaurants in New Jersey, New York, and Pennsylvania.
In downtown New York City, overlooking Madison Park, Eleven Madison has been chosen as one of the 50 restaurants in the world. We’ll learn more about his praise later. Chef Daniel Humm took over in 2011 and completely revamped it in 2017.
They closed for 15 months due to COVID-19, but opened in a big way, offering more dishes and adding an entirely plant-based tasting menu.
Eleven Madison has won prestigious accolades and awards, adding 3 coveted Michelin stars, 4 New York Times stars, the James Beard Award for Best Chef, Best Restaurant, Best Pastry Chef, and Excellent Wine Service, to name a few.
The dining spot also won the Wine Spectators Grand Prize for its remarkable wine selection, service, and dining spot.
Reservations to enter Eleven Madison are very difficult, however, visitors call months in advance to revel in the excellence presented through the restaurant.
Philadelphia offers a wide diversity of culinary options, from cheesesteaks to steakhouses to a wide variety of Italian and world-class restaurants. Vetri Cucina is the most sensible on the list.
In 1998, chef Marc Vetri and his spouse Jeff Benjamin opened a world-class restaurant in the historic and intimate old space of Spruce Street in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Chef Marc Vetri has been trained as an executive chef at restaurants in Italy and the US, and he brings many great offerings for his customers at Vetri Cucina.
I have not been to Vetri Cucina but after reading about them and the history and their passion it is on my list. They have a four-course menu selection that looks like it would be an enjoyable dining experience and the cost, depending on the selection, can range from $165 to $215 per person.
Vetri Cucina has received accolades including multiple James Beard acknowledgments as Outstanding Chef, Wine Service and Restaurant and they have been awarded a place on AAA’s Five Diamond Restaurant list.
Here in New Jersey, the most expensive place to eat is the Crystal Springs Resort in Hamburg. The Latour restaurant is a great place to eat serving either a 3 course menu or a seven course tasting menu that I enjoyed.
The restaurant with gorgeous panoramic views of the Crystal Springs Resort from the well-appointed dining room, serves wonderful culinary delights from New Jersey’s farms and artisan producers.
Wine Spectator awards a premium award, its Grand Prize, to restaurants around the world that showcase their selection of wines, service, and food. There are an incredibly limited number of restaurants worthy of the Grand Prix.
Restaurants such as Epicure in Paris, Enoteca Pinchiorri in Florence, Italy, The French Laundry in Napa Valley, California, and Le Bernardin in New York City won the Grand Prize. The Latour restaurant received this award.
We’re lucky to have the Latour eating stand here in New Jersey, but if you’re on a strict budget, this is the stand for you.
All those restaurants are expensive, but IMHO, once they coincide with the full blue moon, it would be a visit.
