WWE Crown Jewel 2022 will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, this weekend despite warnings of an “imminent” attack earlier in the week.
Dave Meltzer reports in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter that, unless something happens outside of WWE, Crown Jewel will take position as scheduled on Saturday, November 5. Earlier, Meltzer reported that WWE was “monitoring” the scenario in Saudi Arabia, after the country’s government warned. the U. S. regime of a possible attack, putting both countries on high alert.
WWE reportedly put “safety protocols and emergency measures” in place as part of the news. When the story broke, the promotion held out hope that Crown Jewel would move forward.
Mike Johnson of PWInsider reports that, internally, WWE understands that the domain was in jeopardy due to the possible attack “nowhere near Riyadh. “It had been put in position for their new live premium event, allowing the promotion to call them if needed.
Crown Jewel 2022 will be titled via Roman Reigns vs. Logan Paul for the undisputed WWE Universal Championship.
WWE is exhibited in Saudi Arabia as part of an agreement with the country’s government. Instead of high-end live events like Crown Jewel and Suconsistent with ShowDown privately, WWE does it for the sum of around $50 million per show, paid directly through Saudi Arabia’s General Sports Authority.
This 10-year strategic partnership began in 2018. WWE recently committed to holding two annual exhibitions in the Kingdom, though this has confounded the myriad travel restrictions of the COVID-19 pandemic. Due to the suspension of WWE’s excursion this period, Crown Jewel was omitted in 2020 and Super ShowDown in 2021.
