LONDON – World leaders have expressed their hope of a prompt recovery from President Donald Trump after declaring that he and the former tested positive for COVID-19 overnight.
The president is now at a distance and in the “recovery process,” hours after one of Trump’s closest advisers, Hope Hicks, also tested positive.
Among the world’s first leaders to respond to the diagnosis are the prime ministers of India and Pakistan, Narendra Modi and Imran Khan.
“I wish my friend @POTUS @realDonaldTrump and @FLOTUS a quick recovery and health,” Modi said on Twitter.
Khan also wanted the president and the first girl to have an “early recovery,” and those feelings echoed in others around the world.
British Prime Minister Boris Johnson, who had in the past been hospitalized by COVID-19 and spent time in intensive care before ing, tweeted: “My most productive wishes for President Trump and the First Lady. I hope they’re temporarily on the coronavirus. “

German Chancellor Angela Merkel and world health organization director-general Dr Tedros Adhanom also expressed hopes for a full recovery, while a Spokesperson for the French government said the diagnosis “proves that the virus forgives no one, adding those who have shown skepticism. “
Russian President Vladimir Putin, who does tweet, sent a telegram to his American counterpart and wanted Trump to recover quickly from the coronavirus, the Kremlin press service said.
“I am convinced that his important energy, good humour and optimism will allow him to deal with the harmful virus,” the press service said.

Trump is not the first world leader to contract pandemic disease. Perhaps the top prominent world leader affected by COVID-19 is British Prime Minister Johnson. Last March, Johnson, 56, claimed to have ‘shaken hands with everyone’ on a scale at a hospital where they were coronavirus patients, and then tested positive for the disease on March 27, with several other government figures. His condition deteriorated 10 days later.
Johnson was hospitalized and spent time in the ICU before recovering, and has since admitted that his weight is one of the potentially underlying points that made him vulnerable to the disease.
