Ecuadorian coach Gustavo Alfaro has his players to deliver the “best World Cup” in the country’s history as they qualify for the knockout stages against Senegal on Tuesday.
The South American team will seal its place in the last 16 if it manages to defeat the African champions in the final round of Group A matches after beating Qatar 2-0 in the opening match of the tournament and beating the Dutch in a 1-1 draw on Friday.
The progression outside the organization would fit into the functionality of Ecuador’s all-time World Cup in 2006, when they reached knockout level for the first time before leaving England.
Coach Aliou Cissé’s side lost 2-0 to the Dutch before beating Qatar 3-1 on Friday to maintain their hopes of moving forward.
