Work began at a new marine science center in the summer of 2018, when the new headquarters of the Center for Environmental, Fisheries and Aquaculture Sciences (Cefas) was built at its Pakefield Cliffs site in Lowestoft.
Major renovations were to be completed this summer, but due to the blockade of the previous coronavirus this year, the paintings, which saw the existing construction of Cephas, the old Grand Hotel, demolished and replaced through a new study center and a fashionable construction, have been postponed. .
A spokesman for Cephes said: “We are pleased to announce that the progression has continued to progress as planned, thanks to the abundant efforts of our subcontractors, led through Morgan Sindall.
“We had some delays due to the previous crash in the year, however, we are making smart progress in a Covid environment; this includes our subcontractors and colleagues on the site who deliver the required paintings to the user in our laboratories as well as to members. of the public who can now reuse the cliff path next to our site.
With demolition paints already finished, 90% of the fabrics have been shipped for recycling.
Cephes spokesman added: “We are in the process of finalizing the link between the new major structure and the laboratories, which should be completed in November.
“The landscape on the east side continues with the recent opening to the public to join the boardwalk that leads to Pakefield Church and beyond.
While a date for the opening and unveiling of the new site has not yet been confirmed, in the midst of the ongoing coronavirus crisis, the spokesman added: “Given the cases we will need to know when it will be safe and appropriate to hold a formal celebration, however, we hope to be able to officially open in the spring of 2021. “
Cefas was founded in Lowestoft from 1902, when it began as a small fishing laboratory.
The centre now employs about 600 other people between Lowestoft, Weymouth, English ports, Kuwait and Oman.
After securing the most recent investment in January 2018, Cefas said at the time that the new study center could save you up to 2 million pounds a year in operating prices and maintain 440 jobs on Pakefield Road while allowing you to employ 12 to 15 apprentices. One year.

“Our painters responded brilliantly to the Covid-19 pandemic, and thanks to previous investments in IT, the vast majority of colleagues took an interest in paintings from home, so we had to deliver them to consumers accordingly.
“Some of our workers have been temporarily sent to other government agencies to directly assist in the response to the pandemic, as well as participating in Defra, the Government Sciences Office, the Department of Health and Social Affairs, and the Department of Labor and Pensions.
“Other colleagues have been present at the pandemic to adopt important paintings on behalf of the government, that is, in our laboratories. “More recently, we have been able to create more laboratory and workplace spaces that are secured through Covid based on the newest guidelines; However, this means that the relief in the local paintings will continue until it is safe to bring back more people.
“We continue to monitor the fitness and well-being of our colleagues and continue to operate under the leadership of the government and with the physical state of our other people at the forefront as we explore a flexible technique for the future. “
