Chan said integrating more personal sector organisations into Singpass is a key strategy for the adoption of the service as Singapore emerges from the agony of the pandemic. Another form of adoption is to satisfy the desires of less digitally savvy users with vernacular support, a recently introduced feature that allows users to use the Singpass app in native languages such as Malay, Tamil, and Chinese.

Singpass lately relies on a virtual certificate as a component of public key infrastructure generation to authenticate a person’s identity for electronic transaction purposes. The digital certificate is stored in the user’s Singpass app and comes with a unique serial number.
As a service backed through Singapore’s centralized National Registry Identity Card (NRIC) formula and the highest point of acceptance in government, Singpass has less need to rely on technologies like blockchain to authenticate identities, Chan said.
