According to AirNow, a government resource that reports air quality data, the worst air quality is found in the northeastern United States. New York and New Jersey are in bad atmospheric situations with air quality indexes of more than 150. An AQI greater than one hundred is bad.
Air quality in states like Pennsylvania and Missouri is bad for sensitive groups, as well as other people with respiratory illnesses.
