Britain was sleeping in the 1930s when an inevitable war with Hitler loomed.
A lone Winston Churchill had some courageous partners to oppose the appeasement and incompetence of his Conservative colleague, Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain.
One of the most truthful of a politician and public servant now little remembered – Leo Amery, scholar and conservative MP.
However, in two iconic moments of outrage over the Chamberlain government’s procrastination, Amery galvanized Britain and helped end the government’s disastrous policies.
Within hours of Hitler’s invasion of Poland on September 1, 1939, there were genuine doubts that Chamberlain would honor his treaty and claim war on Germany.
A Labour Party member, replacement Arthur Greenwood, rose in the House of Commons to announce that he would speak on behalf of the Labour Party on behalf of its party leader, Clement Attlee.
Immediately, Amery interrupted him by shouting, “Speak for England, Arthur!”
He greeted with overwhelming applause and soon the acclaim of the audience.
After all, Amery, a political voice in the wilderness, warns that neither her own party nor the opposition Labour Party spoke or acted in the genuine interests of the British people.
Amery, a surprised Greenwood and others nevertheless gave up tired of partisan nonsense and called on the country to unite against Nazi Germany.
A few hours later, Britain declared war on Germany, the first major force to do so.
On an iconic occasion, May 7, 1940, Amery expressed even more potent perspectives, again, widely shared by the public, but rarely expressed by the timid political class.
Chamberlain’s inept government had lost a crusade won in Norway to Germany.
Amery responded with a blistering attack on the incompetence of Chamberlain’s Conservative management by quoting Oliver Cromwell’s 1653 order to the Long Parliament: “They have been sitting here too long for all they have done well. Go, I tell you, and let’s be made with you In God’s call, go.
Three days later, following Amery’s speech and the invasion of France, a sick chamberlain and most of his advisers resigned. Churchill became prime minister. The rest is history.
We want a voice like Amery’s. Like Great Britain between 1939 and 1940, the United States is in existential danger.
Biden’s administration has destroyed the southern border, and with it immigration law.
Biden has given the green light to 7 million illegal aliens invading the United States with legal sanction or rudimentary audit.
China spies and outmaneuvers the United States with impunity. Beijing has never declared its responsibility for the office-winning COVID virus that has killed a million Americans.
President Joe Biden released $4 trillion precisely at the time when customer demand and source shortages skyrocketed after COVID. No wonder it has generated the worst inflation in 40 years.
In response, interest rates tripled, gas doubled.
Ours is missing thousands of recruits. There is a lack of ammunition.
After Biden’s humiliating withdrawal from Afghanistan, vast treasures of weapons were abandoned in Kabul. Billions of rare weapons have been shipped to Ukraine.
The Pentagon’s waking schedule trumps meritocracy in promotions and advancements.
Our enemies, Russia, China, Iran, North Korea, are on the move, while America is apathetic.
Biden’s renegade Justice Department, CIA and FBI have become weapons. Ideology, politics, and race, not law, further advise their investigations, intelligence operations, and enforcement.
The urban centers of our once majestic great cities are uninhabitable.
They are mired in garbage and garbage, violent crime and homelessness. Shops and businesses are leaving. Every year, millions of people flee from blue urban coasts to the red west and south.
Even to say that there are still two biological genders, that global warming may not be entirely man-made or that it is not necessarily destroying the planet, or that class, not race, is the correct barometer of inequality, is to face ostracism. and race cancellation.
The public assumes that Biden has a severe cognitive disability, most likely corrupt and a serial manufacturer.
Most know what to do, but few will tell the truth: balance the budget. Return only to legal immigration. Restore a well-funded, but awake, Pentagon.
Insist on racial unity. Curb the exaggerated administrative state. Upholding the rule of law.
Produce more fuel and oil. Restore civic education. Insist that universities lose the discourse and promises of due process, and avoid proselytizing.
In other words, repair what, until recently, made America the strongest, most prosperous, and freest country in the world. And avoid undoing everything bequeathed to us by the past 8 generations of Americans.
Somewhere there, an American Leo Amery is furious about what is being done to America.
And if he nevertheless stands up like Amery to challenge our bankrupt political class, the rest of Americans will echo his famous order to this nefarious government:
“Go,” I said, “and we’re going with you. At God’s call, go. “
