In a statement, LaLota said that he’s rejecting Biden’s invitation to the freshman reception over the COVID-19 vaccination attestation and testing requirement.

“The time for arbitrary and unscientific pandemic protocols deserves to be away from us and I am forgoing a historic vacation at the White House to raise awareness of this punitive policy in the hope that President Biden will oppose it and other arbitrary, outdated and unscientific restrictions around the world. the federal system,” he added.
In September 2022, Biden said the pandemic was “over,” but said the country still had a challenge with COVID-19.

After LaLota’s resolution to boycott the reception over its COVID-19 policies, other Republicans like Rep. Wesley Hunt, R-Texas, followed suit.
“5 months ago, President Biden said on national television that the pandemic was over. However, the White House is asking for a negative COVID check to attend tonight’s taxpayer-funded party. I refuse,” Hunt said.
