What will the World Cup have about Qatar and the region, on and off the pitch?

The world’s biggest soccer tournament begins under Qatar’s scrutiny.

The Gulf country is in a position for football’s biggest showcase: the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Over the next month, more than one million foreign enthusiasts are expected to attend the world’s largest event in the Middle East for the first time.

Qatar has spent billions of dollars since 2010 for the tournament, building new roads, infrastructure and stadiums.

But the arrangements have put Qatar under foreign scrutiny like never before, namely over human rights and their remedy for migrant workers.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino criticized its “racist” and “hypocritical” media policy ahead of the event.

So what will the World Cup have about Qatar and the region, on and off the pitch?
