KP. 2 is a descendant of the Omicron JN. 1 strain and outperforms JN. 1 in countries such as the United States of America and the United Kingdom. Cases of Covid FLiRT have spread in the United States and have also been detected in India.
Ninety-one cases of the new KP. 2 subvariant of Covid have recently been detected in Maharashtra, after which experts have eased concerns about the variant it causes in Karnataka.
According to TOI, the variant was discovered as the dominant strain in April, after the first cases were known in January. Other similar cases have also been detected in Thane, Solapur, Pune, Amravati, Nashik, Ahmednagar, Aurangabad, Latur and Sanglione.
