What I saw in this space will leave me stunned

Young men with brown hair in filthy clothes, knotted hair and no shoes greeted me with suspicious eyes.

It was the peak of the first wave of coronavirus in Israel and I had been fired. At home I felt depressed when it came to mind: maybe if I went out to help other people who were having more trouble than I would, I would.let me acquire the attitude I so desperately needed.

They hit me in my car and I went to Masbia LeKol Chai’s office. He had heard about Masbia by a friend who had volunteered with them in the past. When I arrived in the parking lot, I greeted through a place that touched me to tears: volunteers of all ages and devoted backgrounds, packing boxes with essential groceries.

I connected and worked. One by one, we loaded the supplies into the truck and until mid-afternoon we would go to Jerusalem to deliver the packages.

When we stopped at a parking lot in Geulah district, the youths piled up to watch. What I saw in this little apartment can leave me forever.

Little brown-haired people in filthy clothes, knotted hair and no shoes greeted me with suspicious eyes.We went to the kitchen to drop off shopping.” Where’s your mom?”I asked a 12-year-old boy.

“She sleeps, ” said the child with hard, sturdy eyes.”Our father died of coronavirus. We seek to leave her alone.”

My eyes filled with tears as I looked temporarily around space.Obviously it was a well maintained space not long ago. Now it was full of garbage, bottles and toys.I walked to the kitchen counter to leave the box.of the children opened the refrigerator, it was extraordinarily empty.

At the time, I knew what it was like not to complain about those kids, so I patted the boy, used all my strength to give him a polite smile, and walked to the door.

When I was returned to the van, I visibly shuddered, the driving force took note of the replacement that had been made.

“It’s painful to see other people live, I know,” he began.”It’s much worse since COVID-19. Fewer volunteers, fewer supplies. And more hungry families than I’ve ever seen.”

At that moment I knew that my wish had been granted.Suddenly, my modest savings and comfortable, functional home seemed like a rare luxury to me.My physical condition; the fitness that allowed me to fly on my own, run and raise boxes, an invaluable treasure.

The last months of volunteering in Masbia have replaced my life, but the organization is in a delicate situation: unemployment is on the rise, many others are quarantined and not supplied to meet the number of families applying.grocery packages.

If you are like me and have struggled through this difficult time, but need to use the resources at your disposal for those who are even more in trouble, Masbia increases the budget for their new campaign. Donations will allow families in difficult situations to put food on the table next week.

It can simply replace a life, and if like me, that life can be yours.

thank you.
