‘We have the product in hand’: Israel will begin human trials with COVID-19 vaccine after holiday

The Israeli Institute for Biological Research (IIBR) in Ness Ziona has made additional progress towards a coronavirus vaccine (COVID-19) and will begin human trials after the Jewish New Year holiday in October.

Defense Minister Benny Gantz visited the Institute of Biology Thursday with the institute’s director, Professor Shmuel Shapira, and learned about advances in the Corona vaccine and antibodies.

“Human experiments begin after Tichri’s vacation,” Gantz said.

“All the initial experiments that have been a success are wonderful news and wonderful hope,” he added.

“Just as the IDF has special sets that enter and pave the ground, you are the special forces of the State of Israel in the vaccine box,” Gantz said after the visit.

Shapira recounted how the IIBR departed six months ago to locate a vaccine, when Naftali Bennett, defense minister, and now “there is a fair vaccine.” We start after the holidays with experiences of protection and power, but we have the product in our hand. »

Vaccination tests on golden Syrian hamsters have shown that a serum they have developed is effective, paving the way for human testing.

In May, the IIBR officially announced that it had completed the patent registration of 8 antibodies against coronavirus, a vital step towards the production of a cure for the pandemic.

To date, some 19,006,000 coronaviruses have been recorded internationally in 213 countries, with more than 711,900 deaths and approximately 12,192,000 cures.

Prime Minister Netanyahu said in reaction to the update hearing: “I am pleased to be informed of the progress and I need to congratulate you on that. Continue along this path with the maximum speed you consider scientifically sufficient. I have ordered that a vaccine be developed here in Israel from a wonderful religion in our other people and in our roles as a country.

Prime Minister Netanyahu called for the paintings to be complex in assessing the implementation of vaccine production in Israel.

The Director-General of the IBR, Professor Shapira, told the Prime Minister: “Six months ago, you sent us to bring a vaccine and antibodies to the State of Israel. We have completed the project and are achieving it in the most productive way imaginable.” We have a fair vaccine, this is the first bottle of the vaccine, since last Thursday we have a vaccine.

Prime Minister Netanyahu has ordered the procedure to continue before the final touch of trials and vaccine production so that Israel has effective vaccines for all citizens of Israel until the end of the first quarter of 2021. So far it has been adjusted to the calendars originally established through the National Security Council (NSC), the Ministry of Defence and the Ministry of Health.

Prime Minister Netanyahu also called for action to outline a scheme for other countries to purchase vaccine characteristics from Israel. This investment can generate capacity and production processes.
