Professor Noel Wannang, chairman of the Plateau Research Committee on COVID-19, said the committee had effectively developed an herb for the disease.
Wannang unveiled a commitment to local government presidents and classic leaders in Jos on Friday.
He said the team had finished the first phase, which was drug control and “it was discovered to be for consumption. “
“The study team developed an herb for COVID-19 that Plateau State was the first to expand in Nigeria; we develop PLA-1, VOC PLA-2, VOC PLA-3 and PLATABOOST-N.
“All herbs used in the manufacture of these drugs have been purchased and received from the state, we expect the drugs to be used worldwide at the end of the investigation.
“We’re done with phase one that’s the protective facet and it’s proven safe, we’ll start Phase 2 on Monday, September 21, after which our patients will begin to gain drug benefits,” he said.
Mannang said the drugs were preclynicly tested on eggs, chicks, mice, rats, guinea pigs, cats and rabbits, reversing pain and restoring lung function as in inflamed animals.
He said human trials will soon be conducted in healthy humans to determine the effectiveness of the drugs.
The presidents added that when the studies are completed, he will propose remedy and cure for COVID-19, create employment opportunities, position Plateau on the world map of science, among other benefits.
The West African Journal of Pharmacy, the Pan-African Journal of Medicine and others have accepted their articles and will publish them soon.
Speaking also, Mr. Yakubu Gomos, head of the Economic Team at Plateau State, said COVID-19 had forced the state to review the governance position.
Gomos said that from the pandemic, the state budget had been revised from 177 billion nairas to 122 billion naras.
According to him, the salaries of elected politicians have also been reduced and spending in critical areas has been prioritized. (NAN)
