Wander Franco did show up for his summons to an investigation in the Dominican Republic

Wander Franco was summoned Thursday to appear before the government investigator in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, but the Tampa Bay Rays shortstop did not show up.

Listín Diario, a media outlet in the Dominican Republic, shared a video in which the Justice of the Peace in charge of the case appears alleging that neither Franco nor his legal team had appeared.

A report from Dominican outlet Dominicano Ahora said Franco disempowered/fired his lawyers. There is speculation that he may have disempowered his legal team so that they wouldn’t have been able to tell him about his summons.

Franco is under investigation through the Dominican Republic’s Special Prosecutor’s Office for Children and Adolescents following allegations that he had off-limits relationships with minors. On Tuesday, the government searched two other homes in the Dominican Republic for Franco but was unable to locate him.

Franco last played in MLB on Aug. 12 and was placed on paid administrative leave once the allegations became public.
