The Washington State Department of Fish and Wildlife, along with other authorities, are contemplating a program that would introduce bull trout to Lake Sullivan, a popular recreational and fishing domain in Pend Oreille County, WA.

Bull trout is a local fish of the Pacific Northwest as a cold-water fish. It is known to be predatory, eats smaller fish, and can be aggressive. However, over the years, their numbers have decreased considerably, but they are still discovered in the PNW.

Lately, WDFW is a plan to introduce you to Lake Sullivan. More from WDFW:

“Beginning in 2017, the USFWS and stakeholders in the declining Pend Oreille River watershed conducted research on the feasibility of restoring bull trout in the watershed. Lake Sullivan and its main tributary, Harvey Creek, were known through this research as the portion of the Pend Oreille River watershed has the highest likelihood of having a bull trout population.

Authorities say conditions in the domain are ideal for fish to thrive. According to WDFW:

“The 3 agencies involved will hold an informational town hall starting at 6 p. m. on Wednesday, April 17, 2024 in the Green Room of the Cutter Theatre, 302 Park Street, Metaline Falls. The public is invited to learn about the proposal and provide feedback. An informational virtual presentation will also be held online on wdfw. wa. gov/sullivanlakebulltrout and the public can submit written comments by emailing SullivanLakebulltrout@publicinput. com.

You can also submit feedback by calling 1-855-925-2801, entering assignment code 6058, and leaving a voicemail. The deadline to submit comments is 11:59 p. m. on April 30, 2024.  A draft environmental assessment is also expected to be available for public comment later this year. »
