Dutch star Vivianne Miedema could have a foothold for Saturday’s Euro 2022 quarter-finals against France after coach Mark Parsons revealed that “things are going well”.

Arsenal forward Miedema, who is her country’s smartest scorer with 94 goals in 112 international matches, missed out on organisation-level victories against Portugal and Switzerland following a positive Covid-19 test.

The 26-year-old has returned to the knockout clash striker at Rotherham and will continue to be assessed.

England boss Parsons provided a positive update, but doubted whether Miedema could start for the reigning champions.

“I said the other day that we have to have 3 sessions,” he said at a pre-press convention on Friday.

“We have two, things are going well. We have one more today. I convey as much positive power and optimism as possible, but you have to see. “

“We will take the resolution before our last meeting, but it’s also about making sure that step is marked because with Covid with the players, it’s never the same.

“There is a possibility that they have it because things are going well, but we have to check the last boxes.

“The only thing I’m interested in is ‘do we have to play?’Sure, there’s a verbal exchange about minutes, but that’s the first step. And from there, we have to make tactical decisions.

The winners of the New York Stadium will face Germany in the semi-finals in Milton Keynes.

Parsons believes his team has taken a step forward since a 3-1 friendly defeat to France in February and is confident his players will rise to the occasion.

“We have taken steps forward on the field, but we need to take more steps on the field,” he said. “This team adapts to the duration of the instance more than any other team I’ve worked with. “

“I feel less pressured and less worried when it comes to a great opportunity and a great opponent.

“Tomorrow, my confidence in the players who give everything they have is very high. It’s an adjustment that I think world football has ahead of it, those two wonderful teams. “

France are a candidate to succeed in the semi-finals for the first time after dominating Group D after wins over Italy and Belgium and a draw against Iceland.

Head coach Corinne Diacre insists The Blues are not favorites.

“We know Holland very well; we watch them and we know their players, the starters and the substitutes,” he said.

“There are no surprises, and possibly there wouldn’t be any for them either.

“Holland has the name, and if one of us is the favorite, let it be them. As everyone helps us to tell us: we have never gone beyond the quarter-finals, so we can hardly be favourites. “

The French captain, Wendie Renard, was not surprised that Miedema’s availability was not made public through the Dutch.

“Together we will go out and rewrite history,” the defender said. We have to do everything we can and from the first minute to the last.

“Miedema is a very competitive player and she’s going to need to play. She is a world-class player who can hold the ball and an entire team.

“It’s normal for a coach to keep this (his condition) a secret. “
