Ethereum co-creator Vitalik Buterin is adding an additional $10 million to India-focused coronavirus prevention initiative CryptoRelief from a new $100 million donation tranche, he said in a tweet on Thursday.
CryptoRelief, led by Polygon co-founder Sandeep Nailwal, will contribute $90 million in USD (USDC) to the donation. All of that budget was generated through shiba inu token (SHIB) sales sent to them through Buterin in early 2021.
Buterin said donations will focus on indoor air quality to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, as well as studies to inhibit long-term effects.
The creators of Shiba Inu sent 50% of the token’s source to Buterin after the exhibition in 2020, which generated excitement for the project. Buterin burned or permanently destroyed more than $6 billion in tokens in 2021, which is 90% of the amount held at the time. – and donated the remaining tokens, later valued at $1. 2 billion.
Vaccines and coronavirus remain an ongoing effort in India, according to official sources.
