Virgin coconut oil is a possible antiviral agent opposed to COVID-19, found

MANILA, Philippines – Experiments have shown that virgin coconut oil can beat the new coronavirus (COVID-19).

After six months of experiments, the effects showed that the compounds of coconut oil and virgin coconut oil, or VCO, a product that can be easily obtained in the Philippines, reduced the number of coronavirus from 60 to 90% with low viral load.

However, additional experiments are needed to determine whether higher concentrations of these compounds will further reduce the virus’s replication rate.

“The effects are very promising because not only do they show that VCO alone can destroy the virus, but it also has a key mechanism for regulating the immune reaction opposed to COVID-19. In fact, we look forward to the effects of clinical trials on the various uses of VNO in addition to the COVID-19 remedy,” said Dr. Jaime Montoya, Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Health Research and Development.

Funded through the Department of Science and Technology, studies led by Dr. Fabian Dayrit of Athenaeum University in Manila looked for whether coconut oil compounds are effective antiviral agents in preventing or reducing COVID-19 infections, after reports from previous studies on VCO compounds were effective in killing other viruses.
