Police in Ninh Thuan province in south-central Vietnam have transferred a Russian murder suspect wanted through Interpol to the Russian government after arresting him while hiding in the province’s Phan Rang-Thap Cham city.
The wanted man, Borzykh Mikhail, 38, a Russian national, was arrested on March 22 in a police raid on his transient apartment in the city’s Van Hai district, provincial police said on Sunday.
The raid was carried out in coordination with the department’s immigration office and was based on data from local citizens who detected suspicious symptoms abroad, according to the Cong An Nhan Dan (People’s Public Security) newspaper.
Vietnam’s Ministry of Public Security had previously ordered police forces across the country to search for and arrest the suspect in accordance with the notice requested by Interpol.
In collaboration with the ministry, the branch carried out procedures to hand over the suspect to the Russian government at Tan Son Nhat International Airport in Ho Chi Minh City on March 23.
The man will be escorted on the return flight by Russian police for investigation.
After committing a homicide in Russia, the suspect fled in February this year before entering Vietnam earlier this month and temporarily living in the country, local police said.
