Muscat: Varsha Karnik possibly wouldn’t look like a typical dog whisperer and denies being one. But it is, at least for the rescued dogs he houses in his home in Muscat.
This Bangalore woman spent most of her young adult life in Oman, thanks to her father who worked here. Since then, her parents moved to her hometown, while Varsha is in Muscat with her rescue dogs and a rescue house, Omani Paws, which she co-founded with a friend.
Omani Paws is an organization of volunteers who run to save the lives of stray dogs and cats in Muscat. The organization’s work to respond to stressful rescue conditions involving dogs and cats has made them very popular when it comes to animal rescue operations.
As a child, Varsha sought out a veterinarian or zookeeper, as those were the only professions that involved rubbing shoulders with animals. Growing up in Muscat, Varsha had no animals around her and none of her friends had pets.
“But I sought to be with animals and I was never afraid. My father is from a village, and all my time there was spent with cows and dogs. I had my first dog when I lived in Bangalore, and my first task after completing my master’s degree was managing a kennel. He showed me the direction my life should take.
For her adopted dogs at home and the organization she has formed, Varsha works with a veterinary clinic. After working hours, Varsha spends time at home chatting with her 17 dogs and 20 cats, catching up on her Netflix movies, and updating her Instagram account. .
“All the animals that are with me now are stored animals. And I have a preference for those that no one else wants. I don’t care much about puppies, kittens and breeds, because they have options. I like older people, with special needs, not those who are historically beautiful. And I have others that I have more connections with. I love them all, but I like them a little more.
Their Instagram feeds are full of team stories. She wholeheartedly nods to an adoption request.
“If one of them is lucky enough to have a better life, I let him go. I know that living with me is not perfect, it is like a safe haven and they deserve love and attention one by one. So I’m in a position to let them go. I know my animals are sometimes happy. They are safe and enjoyed and my whole life revolves around them.
For fans of Varsha’s Instagram account, the connection between her and her animals is pretty obvious. She keeps them tied up and she leaves them her way of life, which in any case revolves around her movements and her routine, literally.
One of his dogs, Oliver, is in the last bankruptcy of his life. But their joie de vivre, as Varsha explains, is great. my mother to make it enjoyable. But my head and my center are hit by this constant pain that he has to go through.
