Vaccines or villains? Government admits various effects of Covid-19 bites on RTI response

Mumbai: It’s official. The government’s two main watchdogs have admitted to the “multiple effects” of covid-19 vaccines that have been inflicted on more than a billion Indians over the past two years.

The startling revelations are made through the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) and the Central Standard Drug Control Organization (CDSCO) in RTI’s reaction to Pune businessman Prafful Sarda.

India has authorized AstraZenaca and Serum Institute of India, “Covishield” from Pune and “Covovax” from SII itself; vaccines from 3 Hyderabad-based corporations: “Covaxin” from Bharat Biotech Ltd. , administered by the government, Dr. Reddy’s Lab imported “Sputnik V”, “CorBEvax” from Biological E. Ltd. and, later, Cadila Healthcare Ltd. , Ahmedabad’s ‘ZyCov-D’ for adolescents (12-17 years).

In an express request from Sarda on the effects of all these vaccines, ICMR IOP, Dr. Leyanna Susan George and PIO Sushanta Sarkar CDSCO, cited a host of ramifications stemming from all those vaccines and added their frequently asked questions.

Covishield takes the lion’s percentage of its sequelae on the janted: tenderness or pain at the injection site, red spots or bruising beyond the injection site, persistent vomiting for no reason, severe or persistent abdominal pain or headache with or without vomiting, shortness of breath, chest pain, pain in the extremities or swelling to the pressure of the calf/arm, weakness/paralysis of the limbs in a component or component of the body, adding cranial nerves, unprecedented seizures, eye pain, blurred vision or diplopia, replacing in intellectual state, encephalopathy or depression of the point of consciousness.

Side effects of Covovax are: pain/tenderness/induration at injectionFatigue, malaise, headache, fever, muscle aches, joint pain, nausea or vomiting, chills, pain or pain in the extremities, asthenia (weakness or lack of energy), itching on injection (itching, rash, redness of the skin, hives), enlarged lymph nodes, back pain and, rarely, dizziness or drowsiness.

Covaxin has symptoms of EAPV such as pain/swelling at the injection site, headache, fatigue, fever, body aches, abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, dizziness, tremors, sweating, colds and cough.

Sputnik V presents with chills, fever, arthralgia, myalgia, asthenia, headache, malaise, pain/swelling/hyperemia at the injection site, or nausea, dyspepsia, loss of appetite, or occasional enlargement of regional lymph nodes.

Effects of CorBEvax such as fever/pyrexia, headache, fatigue, frame pain, myalgia, nausea or arthralgia, hives, chills, lethargy, plus injection site pain/erythema, swelling, rash, pruritus, or irritation.

“ICMR-CDSCO’s responses are obviously shocking. Although the government has stated that “vaccination is absolutely voluntary,” why was the restriction created by prohibiting other people from traveling on buses, trains, flights, interstate movements, outings to hotels, restaurants, multiplex cinemas, grocery shopping malls, etc. This has caught more and more people panicking to get stung without knowing the side effects,” Sarda said dryly.

He suggested the government publish knowledge about whether enough exposure has been made about all those conceivable side effects through the media, hospitals, vaccination centers, and whether the Ministry of Health has introduced public protection campaigns for the gullible masses, now that vaccine-related deaths are being reported in India and around the world.

Sarda cited how India had donated millions of loose vaccines, prompting an outcry in 2021, to many failing countries around the world and wondered if all possible headaches from the bites had been made known to others in those countries.

“All global agencies have set the benchmark that only candidate vaccines that show at least 50-60% efficacy will be evaluated. Most vaccines have shown 70-90% efficacy in the short period of two or 3 months of observation. More than a hundred million more people have received at least one dose of the covid-19 vaccine and the proportion of side effects is very low,” the government said.

Once the first mass, usually free, vaccinations were completed, starting in August 2022, the government allowed conditional market sales of Covishield and Covaxin, but the others, Sputnik V and CorBevax, remain in particular for “restricted emergency use,” according to the RTIs.
