The U. S. Centers for Disease Control and PreventionThe U. S. Department of Health (US-CDC) and the Nigerian Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) collaborated to deliver a two-week intermediate-level professional certification for the Public Health Emergency Management Professional Certification Program (PHEM PC).
The PHEM PC program graduated its current cohort of 25 state epidemiologists in a rite last weekend.
Speaking at graduation, U. S. Consul GeneralU. S. Secretary of State Will Stevens highlighted the U. S. government’s commitment and prioritization. The U. S. government is monitoring public fitness emergencies as Nigeria strives to achieve the goals of the Global Health Security Agenda (GHSA) 2024 and meet the needs of the International Health Regulations (IHR) by strengthening development, disease surveillance, emergency response, and laboratory capacity.
The Consul General highlighted the strategic partnership between the United States and Nigeria for physical security and responding to disease threats.
He said: “The EE. UU. se government is committed to selling the fitness and well-being of Nigerians through projects and trainings that improve disease prevention, detection and response. “
In her remarks, US-CDC Nigeria Country Director Dr. Mary Boyd said: “The devastating effect of the COVID-19 pandemic illustrates more than ever the importance of ensuring that public fitness systems can detect, prevent, respond to and and recover from fitness emergencies, especially those whose magnitude, timeliness or unpredictability threaten to overwhelm the regime’s capabilities.
The PHEM PC program is a component of the U. S. government’s efforts. The U. S. is working in the U. S. for pandemic preparedness in Nigeria and around the world. It provides emergency managers, incident managers, state epidemiologists, first responders, surveillance managers, and other public fitness experts with specialized public fitness emergency control education. and operations and other indispensable preparedness and reaction skills, adding emergency and crisis threat communication.
