The United States said Tuesday that the covid testing requirement for travelers from China was based on science and because of Beijing’s lack of transparency about the surge in cases.
Earlier on Tuesday, China denounced measures taken across several countries on its travelers as “unacceptable,” two days before air passengers two years of age or older had to provide covid-negative to enter the United States.
“This is a uniquely and exclusively scientific technique,” State Department spokesman Ned Price told reporters when asked about his Chinese counterpart’s statement.
The measures have “very significant public fitness issues supporting them” due to “the accumulation of Covid-19 cases in the People’s Republic of China and the lack of sufficiently good and transparent knowledge about viral genomic and epidemiological sequences reported through the People’s Republic of China,” Price said, referring to the People’s Republic of China.
Price reiterated that the U. S. The U. S. is willing to share its covid-19 vaccines with China, which has largely promoted its own shots that foreign fitness experts say are less effective.
China has noticed an increasing number of covid illnesses since ending a zero-cases policy following occasional public protests against sweeping lockdowns.
