GUATEMALA CITY – Guatemalan said Wednesday that the United States has deported 127 detained migrants who suffered from COVID-19 and have still recovered.
Previous U.S. deportation flights have been criticized for deporting others with active cases of the disease to Central America.
But Guatemala’s Immigration Institute said migrants who arrived Wednesday on a deportation flight from Alexandria, Louisiana, had a certificate stating that they no longer had the virus.
However, Guatemala announced that everything would be staying in a hotel for a period of two days.
As of April 1, 4,392 Guatemalans have been deported from the United States and quarantined on arrival.
