Updates to national and local COVID-19 rules will begin on Monday, March 13

SAN LUIS OBISPO COUNTY, Calif. —The San Luis Obispo County Department of Public Health has updated local COVID-19 rules by eliminating the requirement to have a negative antigen test before leaving isolation.

Members of the general public with COVID-19 who feel well and have had a fever for 24 hours can leave isolation after five days without needing a negative check that aligns with Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidelines.

The masking continues after coming out of isolation according to SLO’s Department of Public Health.

These adjustments will take effect on Monday, March thirteenth pursuant to a state order.

Previously, Californians could come out of isolation after five days with a negative antigen control or after 10 days without control.

“The most important step you can take is to stay home if you have health problems; that has been true during the pandemic and continues to be true with this change,” said Dr. Brown. Penny Borenstein, SLO County Health Officer. ” If you feel better after five days and no longer have a fever, you can come out of isolation while watching to cover yourself with other people. This means avoiding situations where you might take off your mask, such as going out to dinner or working out at a gym.

This update coincides with a series of adjustments following the end of the COVID-19 state of alarm in February of this year.

“As COVID-19 continues to wreak havoc on our community, we have more equipment than ever to protect ourselves and others,” Dr. Borenstein explained. “Most adults can now get prescription drugs to treat COVID-19. We have up-to-date booster shots and widely available home tests. If you would like help accessing any of these equipment, I urge you to contact your doctor or our public fitness team.
