Update of coronavirus vaccine: India and Russia in Sputnik-5 vaccine talks to the Ministry of Health

Coronavirus vaccine update: Even when the number of coronavirus infections in the country exceeded the 3 million mark on Sunday, India seeks to involve the spread of the virus in each and every possible way. In parallel with the progression of indigenous COVID-19 vaccines, India is in talks with countries for the coronavirus vaccine. The EU Ministry of Health reported on Tuesday that India and Russia were in communication on the COVID-19 vaccine.

Regarding the Russian COVID-19 Sputnik-5 vaccine, the two countries (India and Russia) are in communication, Rajesh Bhushan, secretary of the Union’s Ministry of Health, said at a press conference on Tuesday. “Some initial data has been shared, while detailed data is expected,” he added.

It should be noted that Sputnik-5, developed through Russia, is the world’s first vaccine opposed to COVID-19, Russia has faced serious complaints from scientists and fitness experts about the protection and efficacy of the vaccine. Russia has not yet published the detailed design of the Sputnik-5 trial, developed through the Moscow-based Gamaleya Epidemiology and Microbiology Research Institute and the Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF). Russia had approved the Sputnik-5 vaccine without completing the mandatory Phase 3 human trials and the vaccine had only completed phase 1 and phase 2 clinical trials.

However, after criticism, Russia announced last week that it would conduct phase 3 human trials of the Sputnik-5 vaccine. The country has also made a commitment in this regard. According to RDIF, Phase 3 human trials will involve more than 40,000 volunteers at more than forty-five sites. Phase 3 clinical trials were to take Sputnik-V’s “post-registration” position with the drug regulator in Russia. Sputnik-5 will also move to the Phase 3 clinical phase in the Philippines in October.

Meanwhile, there are 3 possible local vaccines opposed to COVID-19 that are in the final stages (phase II and phase III) of clinical trials in India, according to the knowledge of the Ministry of Health of the Union.
