UPDATE 1-UAE reports 1007 new instances of COVID-19, since the outbreak

DUBAI, 12 September (Reuters) – The UAE Ministry of Health reported on Saturday 1,007 new cases of coronavirus, its highest number of infections since the onset of the pandemic.

The Arab Gulf state has noticed an increase in cases in more than six weeks since 164 cases on August 3, a trend that government officials have attributed to non-compliance with social est breach measures.

The number of cases had sometimes decreased after reaching a peak of 994 on 22 May, there were periodic increases before the recent outbreak.

The United Arab Emirates has so far recorded 78,849 infections and 399 COVID-19 deaths. The government does not disclose where infections or deaths occurred in the country of the seven emirates. Approximately 10 million people, mostly foreigners, live in the United Arab Emirates.

A fitness ministry official on Thursday asked the public to respect social estating and meetings and mixing it with others known to have the virus, which she says accounts for approximately 88% of cases.

The United Arab Emirates had in the past implemented strict measures to curb the spread of the new coronavirus, adding the blockade of Dubai’s resort for a month and months of night curfews across the country.

Most public and commercial offerings have now reopened with some restrictions and others will have to wear outdoor masks.

Dubai reopened foreign visitors in July, airports in the rest of the country remain closed to visitors.
