DUBAI, 19 Aug (Reuters) – Kuwaiti aircraft leasing company Alafco said Wednesday that it had reached an agreement with Airbus to delay the delivery of the ordered aircraft to the aircraft manufacturer.

Aviation was one of the industries hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic and airlines around the world expect it to be years before travel returns to pre-crisis levels.

The lessor did not specify the number of jets affected by the deal, according to the Airbus website, lately it has 43 A320neo and 10 A321neo jets to be delivered.

According to the agreement, advance invoices that will be made within 3 years will expire from 2024, Alafco said in an inventory exchange presentation.

An Airbus spokesman declined to comment.

Earlier this month, Alafco said he had halved his Boeing 737 order after finalizing his legal claim for a cancelled order from the aircraft.

Alafco’s owners come with Kuwait Finance House, Gulf Investment Corporation, and national carrier Kuwait Airways, according to their website (information via Alexander Cornwell; edited via Amy Caren Daniel and Mark Potter).
