Muscat: A life-size statue of the wonderful modern Mahatma Gandhi was unveiled on Monday at the Indian Embassy in Oman.
India’s Minister of State for External Affairs, V Muraleedharan, unveiled the statue in the presence of India’s Ambassador to Oman, Amit Narang, and other figures from the Indian diaspora.
Commissioned through the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR), the life-size bronze statue of Mahatma Gandhi is the first in Oman and highlights ancient dating between Oman and India. The statue is sculpted by the celebrated Indian artist Naresh Kumawat.
A portrait exhibition “India and Oman, a political journey” through Indian artist Sedunath Prabhakaran also opened as a newly designed Indian library at the embassy.
V Muraleedharan, who is on a two-day official visit, arrived in Oman on Monday. During his visit, he will meet with senior Omani officials.
