The University of Illinois is stepping up restrictions on student activity after more than 330 cases of COVID-19 in two days on the school’s Urbana-Champaign campus, school officials said.to “limit their face-to-face interactions to maximum activities” over the next two weeks from Wednesday night.
“This includes things like taking COVID-19 tests twice a week, attending classes, buying groceries and food, going to work, participating in individual outdoor activities, attending devotees, and seeking medical attention,” Jones wrote.
The University of Illinois is not the only university in the state that has seen a spike in COVID-19 cases.Illinois State University in Normal reports that about 1,025 academics tested positive since the fall semester began two weeks ago, or nearly 5% of cases.the student body.
“The irresponsible actions, and I add, of some of our academics have created a very genuine opportunity to finish a user semester for all of us here in Illinois,” Jones wrote.
Since academics returned to the Urbana-Champaign campus on August 16, more than 1,000 people on campus have tested positive.University officials say about 800 people are being quarantined lately.Jones says there is no evidence that the increase in coronavirus among academics has occurred.disseminate to instructors or the local community.
Illinois is asking everyone on campus to have a twice-weekly saliva check, wear a mask, and show evidence of recent negative control before entering campus buildings.Approximately two-thirds of this semester’s college courses are completely online.A third of the categories have parts in person.
Jones attributes the increase in COVID-19 cases on campus to the habit of a small number of academics.He noted that the scholars came out in public despite being positively evaluated, avoiding touch markers, and joining giant gatherings.
“Students who do not comply with COVID-19 campus regulations or who do not attach to any of the Champaign-Urbana Public Health District commandos will be suspended,” Jones wrote.
Authorities say academics who hold parties or fail to comply with quarantine or isolation commands will face immediate suspension.On Wednesday, two academics and one fraternity were suspended, with more than a hundred academics facing discipline.
The university reports that 182,060 saliva tests have been performed since July. The average rate for the school for seven days is 1.16%, up from 0.75% last week.
Jones said the number of new cases in recent days has increased at a rate that will double every seven days if academics don’t attach to the movements he suggests.At this rate, up to 8,000 more people could be inflamed this semester.
