MONTREAL – The University of Montreal has suspended one of its professors after he was caught on camera hurling insults in a standoff similar to the war between Israel and Hamas.
A spokesperson for the university said a course taught through Yanise Arab cancelled on Thursday as a precaution. On Friday afternoon, the school showed that Arab had been suspended.
“The professor was granted a paid suspension this morning for the duration of the investigation,” spokeswoman Genevieve O’Meara said in an interview.

He said the school was in the process of comparing whether the course he was coaching would continue with any other instructors for the remainder of the session.
In a short video circulating on the internet, a guy in a yellow hoodie, later known as an Arab, can be seen shouting “Go back to Poland!”This was followed by another insult: an altercation between pro-Israel and pro-Palestinian teams at Concordia University. In Montreal.
Arab’s biography has since been removed from the Université de Montréal’s website, but an earlier edition described him as a PhD student and professor in the field of history who teaches a course on domination and resistance in the Arab global whole.
He has been listed as an expert on the Middle East and in 3 publications on Palestine.

O’Meara said the school’s data suggests Arab is the user in the video. She said she would meet with the university’s control as part of the investigation. She could simply check the prestige of your PhD application.
Three other people were injured and one rider was arrested in Concordia on Wednesday following the altercation.
O’Meara said the University of Montreal also needs to beef up security on campus, though no violent incidents have occurred there. “We think the weather has been more tense in the last few days, so we need everyone to feel safe,” he said. Eta Yudin, vice president of the Centre for Jewish and Israeli Affairs in Quebec, said Arab deserves to be fired for his actions. “This habit is unacceptable on the part of someone charged with educating the next generation,” he said in a statement.
