United States qualify for upcoming T20 Cricket World Cup after Ireland are eliminated

The United States qualified for the upcoming men’s Cricket World Cup T20 after rain in their match against Ireland.

The United States needed a win or draw in their final Group A match in Lauderhill, Fla. , on Friday to triumph in the Super Eight stage.

By reaching the second round of the tournament, they also qualify for the next T20 World Cup, which will take place in 2026 in India and Sri Lanka.

Victories over Canada in the opening match and Pakistan (a spectacular super-over) had left the co-hosts, who were competing in a world cricket tournament for the first time, in a strong position to move forward.

But the persistent bad weather on the field prevented it from being played, the match was deserted without a ball being thrown and neither team received a point.

And that point was enough to ensure that the United States would move forward alongside India. They lost to India, one of the favorites of the tournament, in the organization stage.

In the Super Eight phase (another round-robin prevention before the semifinals) eight will compete for places among the last four.

The United States will now face South Africa (June 19), the West Indies (June 22) and England or Scotland (June 23).

The top two in the organization will advance to the semifinals before the tournament final at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown, Barbados, on June 29.

T20 or Twenty20 cricket is the shortest format in the game and the team has an entry of up to 20 overs.
