UNICEF donates oxygen concentrators for COVID-19 patients to Ukraine

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has purchased and delivered 150 oxygen concentrators to Ukraine for the remedy of critically ill patients with coronavirus (COVID-19), some 125 gadgets from the newly arrived batch have been purchased with the help of PrivatBank. Charitable Foundation, unicef’s press service said.

According to the statement, in the near future, the centres will obtain 35 medical services in Kiev, as well as in the Kharkiv, Zaporijia, Odessa, Ivano-Frankivsk, Chernivtsi, Lviv, Ternopil, Kherson, Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk and Chernihiv regions. These hospitals care for 22% of all hospitalized patients in the country.

The regions and hospitals that will obtain the oxygen system were decided through extensive research taking into account the number of others with hospitalized COVID-19, as well as the mortality rate in those regions.

According to UNICEF Representative in Ukraine Lotta Sylwander, this is the batch of oxygen concentrators delivered through UNICEF to Ukraine.

“Unfortunately, with the immediate increase in the number of cases, the need for oxygen is also still high. Nearly one in five hospitalized patients have a severe progression of the disease and want oxygen therapy,” he said.
