Ukrainian leader warns of ‘bloody chaos’ if anti-corruption legislation is restored

KYIV (Reuters) – President Volodymyr Zelenskiy warned Monday that Ukraine could fall into “bloody chaos” if parliament does not repair anti-corruption reforms that he says are important for maintaining foreign aid.

Zelenskiy has asked parliament to vote to dissolve the Constitutional Court and restore the anti-corruption it oversteer last week, but the final results of the vote are uncertain.

Ukraine’s asymmetric functionality in reforms has prevented a $5 billion agreement through the International Monetary Fund for the Economy, which has been affected by the coronavirus pandemic.

The government is also down after approving a solution that gives it more than the acquisition of drugs and equipment, but denies accusations that it may be just a vector of corruption.

Opposition parties say they will vote against Zelenskiy’s legislation, which former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko described as a “coup d’am” designed to have more force on her hands.

It is not known how many lawmakers of the Zelenskiy People’s Server party will pass the bill, which could be passed on Tuesday.

Zelenskiy said Ukrainians would not tolerate support for reforms to combat corruption and that Ukraine’s reputation is at stake.

“Either the country will plunge back into bloody chaos, or the state will end its lifestyle as a formula of transparent regulations and agreements,” Zelenskiy said in an audio recording of a call to lawmakers received through news Liga. net.

The court ruled last week opposing some anti-corruption laws, saying the fine for false data on officials’ asset statements was exaggerated and overstated some of the powers of the anti-corruption firm NAZK.

On Monday, the court also approved an agrarian reform bill in March this year as a component of Ukraine’s supply of more IMF loans.

The IMF said last week that improving the effectiveness of Ukraine’s anti-corruption establishments is essential, and ukraine’s United States and other Western sponsors expressed concern.
