KYIV – Ukraine will open more hospitals to house patients with the new coronavirus amid an increase in new cases, the government announced Friday.
Ukraine has recorded a record 5,804 instances of COVID-19 in the more than 24 hours, the national security council said Friday, with a record 5,397 new instances reported thursday.
The government said in a statement that Prime Minister Denys Smygal had ordered Health Minister Maksym Stepanov to begin preparing to increase the number of hospitals for coronavirus cases, as more than 20,000 beds from 31,927 were already occupied in the country.
The minister stated that at least 900 patients with coronavirus infection shown are admitted daily to hospitals and that, in some areas, medical capacity is absolutely complete.
The count in Ukraine rose to a record for the third consecutive day, bringing the total number of cases of coronavirus infection to 250538 with 4,779 deaths, 89 of them in the last 24 hours.
A total of 110,650 patients have recovered since the start of the pandemic.
The government is also contemplating tactics to tighten blocking measures, which have softened since June to help the economy, which plummeted by 11. 4% in the current quarter (information through Natalia Zinets; editing through Jacqueline Wong and Nick Zieminski).
