UK to be ”relentless’ quarantined, Johnson says when he talks about France

LONDON (Reuters) – British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said his government is in a position to be ruthless with even its closest partners on COVID-19 quarantine rules, after being asked if France would be removed from the government’s safe list.

Britain imposed a 14-day quarantine era in recent weeks for arrivals from countries such as Spain and Belgium, responding to emerging infections and fears of a wave of viruses that first declared them to travel.

“Surely we will have to be ruthless about it, even with our closest and dearest friends and partners in the world,” Johnson told reporters on a stopover in Northern Ireland.

“We will be reviewing the knowledge later this afternoon Array … precisely where France and the other countries are, and you know that we cannot be happy with our own situation.”

The French Ministry of Health reported on Wednesday 2524 new coronavirus infections, since its blocking restrictions.

This has raised the hypothesis that it could be the next European country added to Britain’s list, a resolution that would mean the huge number of British tourists who would stop at it during the English school holidays.

For British holidaymakers, France is the most visited time in Spain, a top destination. Nearly thirteen million Britons visited France in 2017, according to Statista data.

Britain sometimes welcomes around 3.5 million French visitors each year according to the same data, making France the largest market at the moment for tourists arriving in the UK to the US.
