UAE boy suspended from cricket for 14 years for match-fixing

A UAE national player has been banned from all cricket for 14 years after being convicted of seven similar counts of match-fixing in a series in April 2019 and a Twenty20 franchise tournament in Canada later that year.

The International Cricket Council issued a statement on Wednesday pronouncing the ban on Mehardeep Chhayakar after a hearing before the ICC Anti-Corruption Tribunal.

It follows bans imposed on two former UAE national team players who admitted to violating the sport’s anti-corruption code in relation to the approaches of Chhavakar, a hitter who played for the smartest groups in the UAE leagues and, through that, participated. in an Asian U-19 Club Tournament in 2012.

Chhavakar denied all charges. He found guilt on two counts of attempting to influence a player to establish a result through intentional underperformance, two counts of soliciting or inciting a player to violate anti-corruption rules, two counts of failing or refusing to cooperate with an investigation, and one count of obstructing or delaying an investigation into UAE series matches against Zimbabwe in April 2019 and the Global T20 tournament in Canada later that year.

Alex Marshal, director general of the ICC’s integrity unit, said Chhavakar drew investigators’ attention to his involvement in organizing a cricket tournament in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, in 2018.

“The fees for which he has now won a lengthy ban are further examples of his ongoing efforts to corrupt and harm our sport,” Marshal said in the statement. . With a 14-year suspension, the court sent a transparent message about the intent to corrupt our game. ”
