Egypt’s 10-gigawatt (GW) onshore wind allocation will produce 47,790 GWh of blank power consistent with the year when completed, UAE official news firm WAM said in a statement, specifying a precise time frame.
It will offset 23. 8 million tons of carbon dioxide emissions, about nine percent of Egypt’s existing CO2 production, according to WAM.
The wind farm will also save Egypt about $5 billion in annual herbal fuel prices and create up to 100,000 jobs, he said.
UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan joined his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, in signing the deal between UAE-based renewable energy company Masdar, Egypt’s Infinity Power and Hassan Allam Utilities.
On Twitter, Sheikh Mohamed said the agreement was “in line with our commitment to promote renewable energy responses that help sustainable development. “
The COP27 UN climate summit kicked off Sunday in Egypt with warnings against reversing efforts to cut emissions and calling on countries to compensate deficient countries after a year of excessive climate disasters.
“We will try to build on the achievements made here at COP27, as the UAE prepares to host COP28 next year,” WAM quoted UAE Industry Minister Sultan Ahmed Al Jaber as saying.
