The US Department of Defense (DoD) has announced plans to deliver 4 M142 High Mobility Artillery Rocket (HIMARS) systems to Ukraine.
It is in line with the approval of a $700 million presidential tax plan, which was approved on June 1.
The military support is the eleventh withdrawal of equipment from the Department of Defense since August 2021 from its security support to Ukraine.
The newest assistance package includes counter-artillery radar systems, two aerial surveillance radars, 6,000 anti-armor weapons, 15,000 155 mm artillery shells, 1,000 javelins and 50 commando launch units, 4 Mi-17 helicopters and spare parts.
The guided rocket launcher system, capable of hitting a target more than 40 miles away, will also be delivered to the war-torn nation.
According to the Department of Defense, HIMARS systems are already pre-positioned in Europe to allow the delivery of aircraft to Ukraine.
A three-week educational consultation for Ukrainian users and the team will precede the transfer of the equipment.
DOD UNDERSEC secretary for defence policy Colin Kahl said: “They want to know not only how to use the formulas, but of course how to use the formula, so think about logistics, maintenance, things like that. “
As a component of the multiple rocket launch system, the M142 HIMARS facilitates rocket launches with greater precision.
Kahl added: “Right now, the howitzers we have for them have a diversity of about 30 km; HIMARS has more than twice as much, which will allow them, even with fewer systems, a major dead end.
“The last set of aircraft for Ukraine probably won’t be the last. We will continue to consult intensively with Ukraine and the additional systems and functions that will be in place to assist its defense.
The United States has given $4. 6 billion to Ukraine since the Russian invasion began.
Last month, the U. S. House of Representatives approved an invoice to supply $40 in aid to Ukraine.
This package allocates $6 billion for security assistance, training, equipment, weapons, and similar support.
