June 3 (UPI) — Dr. Anthony Fauci, the face of the federal government’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, gave the impression to a U. S. House of Representatives committee Monday that he was the subject of intense complaints from Republicans, adding from a member who refused to call him a doctor.
As he was about to respond, Greene said, “I don’t want your answer.
Democratic members of the subcommittee issued “points of order” on Greene’s statements.
Greene Fauci “doesn’t deserve to have a license. “
And she said, “Do you know what this committee does? We propose that you be prosecuted. We draft a referral for offender because you will be prosecuted for crimes against humanity. Your position is in jail, Dr. Fauci. “
Rep. Brad Wenstrup, R-Ohio, chairman of the House Special Subcommittee on Oversight and Accountability on the coronavirus pandemic, rebuked Greene for refusing to consider Fauci a doctor.
Fauci faced more complaints from Republicans as Democrats defended his work as a scientist. During the hearing, House members typically made statements and did not provide Fauci with many opportunities to testify.
In January, Fauci gave the impression of being behind closed doors for 14 hours. Transcripts were released Monday.
In his opening remarks, Fauci said, “As far as I know, I have never conducted official business with my private email. “
A U. S. intelligence investigation indicates that there is insufficient evidence to prove that the virus originated in a market in Wuhan, China, or in a laboratory.
Fauci maintained that he was open to either position.
“I have stated on several occasions that I am absolutely open to either option and that if definitive evidence is obtained to validate or refute either theory, I would gladly settle for it,” he said in his opening statement.
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, on the NIAID grant awarded to a Chinese lab.
“Does this have to do with this minimization of the lab leak theory?” said Jordan.
“No, nothing,” Fauci said.
“Do you agree that there has been an attempt to downplay the lab leak theory?” replied Jordan.
“Not on my part,” Fauci said.
“Really?” Rep. Jordan asked. I think most of the country would be awesome. “
Fauci said the U. S. wants to better prepare for another pandemic. “I’m disappointed” with the projects, he said.
Fauci agreed.
“I think one of the things that had a challenge with the reaction was the degree of department that we had in the country because of the lack of a coherent reaction in which we received people, for reasons that had nothing to do with public health or science, refusing to adhere to the public’s reaction measures,” Fauci said.
Moskowitz went on to describe the divisions.
“Dr. Fauci, you explained that we live in partisan times, with a lot of misinformation. And you know, colleagues in that organization have said, you know, you’re going to be charged and convicted. Of course, the only one this happened to was his former boss,” Moskowitz said. “But, you know, the question I ask myself is when you’ve noticed a lot of this misinformation, if it were, you know, we can use a disinfectant to do, like a cleaning or a softness in the frame or, you know, China is running really hard. President Xi controlled to involve all those things that were being transmitted. You know, what was your feeling at that time in the administration, watching Did he get off the podium?
Fauci had earned the threats.
“Everything from harassing emails, text messages, letters from me, my wife and my three daughters,” Fauci said. “There were credible death threats that led to the arrest of two Americans, and credible death threats mean someone who was obviously in the “Is about to kill me. ” And that requires you to have coverage almost all the time. “
“It is my duty to tell the truth. “
Raul Ruiz, a member of the California Democratic rankings, thanked Fauci for his testimony and for his decades of service to the country in the fight against epidemics and pandemics.
“For the past four years, you have been the target of excessive narratives about the origins of the COVID-19 pandemic and the U. S. government’s reaction to it,” Ruiz said. “These over-the-top narratives have been the basis of this investigation through Republican subcommittees and have been undermined through what has been exposed in interviews and through thousands of documents that have been reviewed. “
Wenstrup, the commission’s chairman, spoke of moving forward.
