Cases in the United States of the new coronavirus exceeded six million on Sunday, and many Midwest states reported an increase in infections, according to a Reuters count.
Iowa, North Dakota, South Dakota and Minnesota recently reported a record increase in new cases in one day, while Montana and Idaho recorded a record number of patients recently hospitalized by COVID-19.
Nationally, measurements of new cases, deaths, hospitalizations and positivity rates are declining, but there are new hot spots in the Midwest.
Many of the new instances in Iowa are found in counties that house the University of Iowa and Iowa State University, which offer face-to-face courses. Colleges and universities across the country have witnessed epidemics after academics returned to campus, forcing some to transfer to learning only.
New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo said Sunday that his state sent a “SWAT team” to a New York State University (SUNY) campus in Oneonta, New York State, to involve a COVID-19 outbreak. Last week in college, they were suspended for two weeks after more than a hundred people tested positive for the virus, or about 3% of the student and college population overall, SUNY Chancellor Jim Malatras said.
“We received reports from several giant teams of our academics in Oneonta last week, and because of those giantr meetings, there were several academics who were symptomatic of COVID,” Malatras said.
Infections in the Midwest also increased after an annual motorcycle rally in Sturgis, South Dakota, which attracted more than 365,000 people across the country from August 7-16. The South Dakota Department of Health said 88 cases had been tracked.
More than 8 months after the start of the pandemic, the United States continues to fight the tests. The number of other people who have had the tests has decreased in recent weeks.
Many fitness officials and at least 33 states have rejected the Trump administration’s new COVID-19 verification rules released last week that others exposed to the virus and without symptoms may not want to verify.
Public aptitude officials that the United States wants to conduct more common tests to locate asymptomatic carriers of COVID-19 in order to curb the spread of the disease.
While the United States has the number of recorded infections in the world, it ranks 10th consistently with the capita, and Brazil, Peru, and Chile have rising infection rates, according to a Reuters tally.
The United States also has the highest deaths in the world with nearly 183,000 and ranks 11th in deaths consistent with the capita, surpassed by Sweden, Brazil, Italy, Chile, Spain, the United Kingdom, Belgium and Peru.
