Turkish soldier killed by terror in northern Iraq

ANKARA

A Turkish soldier has been killed in a terrorist attack in northern Iraq, the Ministry of National Defense said Sunday.

Contract infantryman Firat Guner suffered serious injuries in an attack in Operation Pence-Simsek on Saturday, the ministry said in a statement.

He succumbed to his in the hospital, he added.

The ministry praised Guner as a “heroic martyr” and offered its condolences to the soldier’s family.

Operation Pence-Simsek is part of a series of offensives launched in Türkiye since 2019 against terrorist teams in northern Iraq, the PKK.

During its terrorist crusade of more than 35 years against Turkey, the PKK -indexed as a terrorist organization through Turkey, USA. and the EU – has been guilty of the deaths of more than 40,000 people, including women, young people and babies.
