ANKARA
Turkey’s public health minister on Saturday announced the latest weekly infection rates for the novel coronavirus in Turkey’s 81 provinces between March 13 and 19.
“We can’t forget about the virus. Or let it steal our life in general. We can achieve this by taking precautions,” Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter, sharing the statistics.
The number of cases consistent with 100,000 inhabitants exceeds 251 in the city of Istanbul, up from 178 last week, and 107 in the capital Ankara, up from 68, and 111 in the western province of Izmir, up from 78.
According to the data, Turkey’s Black Sea province of Samsun continued to record the number of cases this week, at 508 per 100,000 people.
The southeastern provinces of Sirnak, Siirt, Hakkari, Mardin and Sanliurfa recorded the lowest COVID-19 infections consistent with 100,000 inhabitants between the dates shown.
The rate of 8 is consistent with that of another 100,000 people in Sirnak province last week, up from 4 the week before.
As of Saturday, Turkey had shown more than 2. 99 million cases, 29,959 deaths and more than 2. 8 million recoveries.
Since Turkey introduced a mass COVID vaccination crusade on Jan. 14, it has administered more than 13. 05 million coronavirus vaccines, according to official figures.
To date, more than eight million people have received their first dose of the coronavirus vaccine, while the second dose has been administered to more than five million.
On March 1, Turkey began easing weekend curfews and maintained weekday curfews to curb the spread of the virus. The country is allowing more in-person education and dining out, based on a local threat assessment.
Since December 2019, the pandemic has claimed more than 2. 7 million lives in 192 countries and regions.
More than 122. 62 million cases have been reported worldwide, with more than 69. 42 million recoveries, according to figures compiled by Johns Hopkins University.
