National security adviser Robert O’Brien returned to the White House Tuesday after self-isolation following his coronavirus diagnosis last month, a Homeland Security Council spokesman said.
O’Brien met with President Donald Trump “who warmly welcomed him back” to the West Wing following two negative Covid-19 tests and more than a week without symptoms, NSC spokesperson John Ullyot said in a statement.
“His return to duties at the White House is consistent with CDC guidelines and White House Medical Unit advice,” Ullyot added.
O’Brien’s diagnosis last month marked that the trump management officer tested positive.
He had experienced “mild symptoms” and worked “from a safe place off-site,” according to a White House press report that he failed to confirm the effects of his tests last month.
Several members of the National Security Council told CNN that they had not been informed that O’Brien had tested positive and heard the news in the media.
O’Brien, one of Trump’s top aides, had recently returned from Europe, where he and his top deputy met with officials from the UK, France, Germany and Italy. He also took a family vacation, during which he was likely exposed to the virus, immediately following his trip to Europe, a senior administration official previously told CNN.
While O’Brien was able to return to the White House in a short period of time, the disruption caused by his positive control underscores the unique challenge staff face as they leave to avoid the West Wing pandemic as the president pushes to reopen the counterattack.
Last month, management officials were alerted that a White House cafeteria worker had tested positive. And Kimberly Guilfoyle, the friend of the president’s son and fundraiser of the crusade, tested positive before going to the mountain. Rushmore in July.
In addition, several Secret Service agents and crusade staff tested positive after arrangements for the concentration of the president’s crusade in Tulsa in June. Vice President Mike Pence’s communications director, Katie Miller, also tested positive for coronavirus in May, and one of the president’s non-public aides tested positive for this week.
As a result, the White House has made wonderful efforts to save it from Trump and Pence contracting the virus, even in states where the instances are increasing.
