President Trump, Donald John Trump, Democrats, Advocates of Florida’s ruling right over Russian aircraft known in the Trump Crusade announcement calling for troop support, Democratic Senate nominee ”doubt” in receiving the COVID-19 vaccine if approved this year more over the weekend, falsely retwed a conspiracy. theory that only about 9,000 other people were ‘really’ killed by coronavirus Array of approximately 150,000.
Twitter then deleted the tweet, written through a user named “Mel Q”, who favors the QAnon conspiracy theory, claiming to have violated its rules.
The tweet now deleted referred to an article on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s online page that said that “for 6% of deaths, COVID-19 is the only cause mentioned. “
But contrary to what the tweet claims, that doesn’t mean the remaining 94% didn’t die from the coronavirus. Many of the remaining deaths were also listed as also affected by ailments directly caused by coronavirus, as “respiratory failure”. Others had underlying situations that are not necessarily fatal on their own, but that worsen the coronavirus, such as obesity and diabetes.
“When you see that ‘only 6%’ of other people had COVID-19 as the only explanation for why they were indexed on their death forms, it means that there was only a small fraction of other people who died from the disease who did not have a. other underlying or quick reasons known through medical certificaters,” australian epidemiologist Gideon Meyerowitz-Katz wrote. “This is certainly not surprising, as it is rare for a user not to have at least one challenge caused by a coronavirus before their death, and all this means that in 94% of cases, other people with COVID-19 also developed other challenges, or had other challenges at the same time”.
Trump’s retweet of the publication indicates a preference to minimize the death toll from the virus, a key factor in the run-up to the election, and his willingness to retweet posts from marginal accounts like those of QAnon’s supporters.
Another tweet, from Trump’s senior legal adviser Jenna Ellis, was not removed via Twitter and contains links to an article on the online fringe page Gateway Pundit about the 6% statistic. The tweet was also retweeted via Trump.
The CDC chart lists a total of 161,392 coronavirus deaths through August 22. Other resources position the number of deaths even higher. Johns Hopkins University records more than 183,000 coronavirus deaths in the United States.
A New York Times investigation this month estimated the actual number of deaths at at least 200,000, in a metric called “excess deaths,” that is, how many more deaths there were overall compared to overall grades in recent years.
