Trudeau said in a year-end interview with The Canadian Press that the somber message he delivered publicly that day was intended to provide an additional “layer of deterrence” to keep Canadians safe.

Trudeau said British Columbia’s Sikh network was concerned about what might happen next and that its audience came here after “quiet diplomacy” that included raising the accusations against India at the highest levels.

He said he also hoped the data would be published in the media and that he wanted Canadians to hear directly from him that the government was under control.
