The new agreements will guarantee up to 76 million doses of NVX-CoV2373 from Gaithersburg, Maryland Novavax and 38 million doses of Ad26.COV2. S of New Brunswick, New Jersey, Johnson
“There may soon be a breakthrough that will allow us to get a vaccine faster, but we don’t know where or if that progress will happen,” Trudeau said.”That’s why the Government of Canada has made progress in signing agreements with a wide variety of vaccine developers.”
Covid-19 vaccine agreements are in addition to past agreements with New York-based Pfizer Inc. for at least 20 million doses and Moderna Inc., based in Cambridge, Massachusetts, for up to one million doses.
Canada “will continue to negotiate and signal other agreements with a number of primary pharmaceutical corporations to ensure the source of possible vaccines for Canada,” according to a report by the Prime Minister’s Office.Lately there are no vaccines approved to save Covid-19.
The NVX-CoV2373 is recently in Phase 2 tests in countries such as the United States, Australia and South Africa, and Novavax said it could supply the vaccine by June 2021.
“We are pleased to work with the Canadian government on the provision of our COVID-19 vaccine, an essential step in ensuring broad access to our candidate vaccine,” Stan Erck, Novavax’s chief executive, said in a statement.we are advancing the clinical progression of NVX-CoV2373 with a strong sense of urgency in our quest to supply a vaccine to the world.”
Trudeau also said it was “unfortunate” than an agreement to expand a vaccine with CanSino Biologics Inc.failed after China refused to allow its studies to be exported to Canada.
As of August 30, Canada had reported 127,940 of Covid-19, with 9,117 deaths.
