Isolated stays
Hotels that partner with visitors and sun-seeker-filled beaches are likely to be things from the afterlife (at least for a while). Instead, destinations that offer isolation and peace and quiet are among the most desirable.
Located between Spain and France, in the heart of the Pyrenees, the small principality of Andorra is a hidden gem for those looking for a quiet mountain getaway. The Refugi de L’illa is a network of 27 mountain shelters, dotted with secluded hiking trails, and offers a way to absolutely disconnect from life. Only available on foot, the cottages – or “refugios” – will provide a cozy bed for the night, and some will offer local dishes to enjoy after a day on the mountain.
Meanwhile, in Ibiza, Agroturismo Sa Talaia is a personal mansion with 12 rooms in the east of the island. Ideal for families or friends who want to “regroup”, the rooms are distributed in separate buildings around the aromatic park, a central swimming pool allows you to cool off and the place to eat tapas gives you an intimate atmosphere.
Also taking advantage of the search for solitary revelry, the Auberge de La Maison Hotel in Courmayeur Mont Blanc. He has just presented an exclusive and socially remote culinary delight at the foot of Mont Blanc, the mountain of the Italian Alps.
You can include lunch, an aperitif or dinner, enjoyed at a remote table where food is delivered in a picnic basket, connected to the hotel kitchen through a pulley system. The delight of “Le Solitaire” has its roots in the traditions of the Aosta Valley, the basket was installed through the Alpine guides of Courmayeur and with classic mountain dishes on the menu. In addition, the destination is also available without taking flight. The nearest exercise station is Chamonix Mont Blanc (20-minute drive from Courmayeur via the Mont Blanc tunnel) and the Eurostar connects London with Chamonix Mont Blanc daily.
For the more adventurous, Guyana is one of the last countries in Latin America that offers unexplored regions to explore. More than 80% of Guyana’s territory is a dense and pristine rainforest, where human contact is rare and general immersion in raw nature is inevitable. Guyana’s ecosystems have evolved over the millennia without being disturbed by human development, which even the most impressive sites, such as Kaieteur Falls, the world’s largest single drop waterfall, are free of hordes of tourists.
The Wildlife Worldwide – Guyana: A Pristine Wilderness tour – takes travelers through a number of ecosystems, adding rainforest, savannahs, wetlands, majestic rivers, mangroves and mountains. Visitors will have the chance to see animals such as the black alligator, the giant anteater and the green anaconda. It’s as wild as possible.
Located on the remote islands of Anambas, Indonesia, between Malaysia and Borneo, Bawah Reserve is the jewel of castaways. Comprised of six tropical islands, there are 36 hostels (including some of Indonesia’s only stilt villas), where visitors can stay.
Later this year, six new cliffside shelters open to an unspoiled island from the past called Elang. Here, visitors can do so in their own clubhouse, designed around a rocky and lively formation through the tribal communal houses discovered in Indonesia. There is also a beachfront restaurant, a spa, a personal beach and a saltwater infinity pool, created from a herbal watering hole and updated with every tidal change, with a slide.
For those who have a lot of money, the industry’s high-end point is booming right now, with the luxurious in search of personal jets, individual rental resorts and beautifully designed villas to avoid the crowds.
Black Tomato, the luxury company looking for cutting-edge experiences, agrees. “Renting yachts or jumping between personal villas is an exclusive way to explore various destinations, while ensuring that teams of friends and the circle of family combined have their own personal space,” the brand says.
“The crowded souks would possibly be off the table, for example, but Morocco is full of beautiful oasis on the slopes, such as Kasbah Tamadot and Dar Ahlam in the Atlas Mountains, which offer a very different way to explore the rich Berber culture. Or, for those who enjoy euphoria in the ocean, Black Tomato can arrange a sailing along the Aegean coast aboard the luxury yacht, Alexa J, which will take you to some of the secret gems of the Aegean Sea, adding Elies Resort, on the small island. Of Sifnos, and The Hotel Anemi, in Folegandros.
“For a hyper-personal, fully personalized delight, Black Tomato’s Blink luxury camps are the ultimate delight of personalized luxury you can imagine; give you the opportunity to design your own transitional accommodation in places so personal and untouched that no one has stayed there before. from the dome-shaped tents in the Uyuni marshes in Bolivia to the sand dunes of Morocco.
Following the recent announcement of the air bridge through the UK government, Air Charter Service (ACS) reported a 258% increase in UK consultations related to personal jet rental, demonstrating that tourists are eager to escape and escape the crowds. It offers, for example, personal flights from London to Male on an ultra-long-distance 14-seat Gulfstream 550 to remote locations, such as Naladhu Private Island in the Maldives. The resort has only 20 houses, all with personal pools, committed 24-hour butler service, a personal dining spot and an on-site spa.
Meanwhile, Chebeague Island Inn in Casco Bay, a waterfront to the Gulf of Maine in the U.S., says it won’t be open to single room bookings this summer and will instead adopt a full repurchase strategy. Families and equipment can be combined to electronically book the entire hostel for $50,000 per week, plus food and beverages and a 15% service charge. You can even arrive by helicopter, directly on the lawn of the hostel. The general manager and sales and marketing manager will act as janitors, while on-site chefs will need to prepare all meals. A few days after the presentation of this offer, the hostel says it already has a handful of tenants interested in crochet knitting for the summer.
One of Hawaii’s largest hotel control companies, Space, which welcomes 5.5 million visitors each year, also offers the full acquisition of its nine-story boutique hotel and nine ultra-luxury suites, The Jewel of Waikiki SPACE, for $45,000 per night. For those on an unlimited budget, the hotel also offers a number of non-contact luxuries according to the requirements, adding a traditional hotel cloakroom, in a position for you when you check in, in partnership with Neiman Marcus.
Extended stays
Given the practicalities of our real (think: transits, being on a plane, going through airports), which are the main points that deter other people from stopping sailing right now, chances are that many of us will just make fewer trips to avoid the “problem factor”. However, when we do, we will opt for a longer era to maximize and think more deeply about where we are going.
Hotel brands, such as Exclusive Resorts Holiday Club, anticipate that travelers will look for flexible features so they can travel with a circle of family and friends in their ‘circles of confidence’ to reconnect after being controlled by remote control.
“We are specially equipped to accommodate families and giant groups, with apartments that can accommodate more than 10 people,” the club says. “Members can even make electronic reservations at multiple homes within the same network of hotels for giant meeting-style travel. The apartments have their own golf carts, infinity pools and fully equipped kitchens with chef quality. The club also provides residential services such as personal chef services, spa treatments, loose purchases and no-contact plans with the cellular app”.
Black Tomato also says that after spending so much time at home, other people plan longer and more epic adventures with friends and family, rather than accumulating weekends to verify. “As intrepid specialists, we can facilitate this with extended trips to faraway destinations, such as Argentina, Chile, Svalbard, Morocco or Mongolia.
The one with the practice
Where cleanliness, household chores and disinfection processes were once hidden and executed out of customer’s sight, expectations have been reversed. We now see the cleaned spaces, cleaned surfaces and washed hands to calm us down more.
Huw and Rossella Beaugie, founders of The Thinking Traveller, who will offer luxury villas, agree: “Hygiene will be vital for visitors and we hope that the number of people who opt for villas instead of hotels will increase. It will offer more privacy, offer more freedom to do things, give you the ability to decide the point of service you want and offer you maximum isolation. Being in a villa compared to a hotel will reassure you that you are in a safe environment. Space will also be the best scenario for your new ‘bubble’, the small circle of friends and the circle of family members that matter.”
Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts, for example, has partnered with Johns Hopkins Medicine International, the global fitness department and study leader Johns Hopkins Medicine, to validate its new global fitness and protection program, Lead With Care. The program will be reviewed and validated through Johns Hopkins medical experts and will be implemented through Four Seasons services around the world.
“In this new environment, our unique purpose is to give customers, citizens and workers the confidence and assurance that their physical condition and protection are our most sensitive priority,” said John Davison, President and CEO of Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts.
Successful New York Times writer and behavioral psychologist Martin Lindstrom, who, according to Intertek Protek, has published an e-book on COVID’s recommendation travel Truth and Lies Unmasked, also addresses these new concerns.
The loose eBook, which can be downloaded here, provides those traveling in the Covid-19 era with practical advice on how to confidently navigate the hidden pitfalls of overseas travel.
“As global appetite for selections increases, there is massive demand for a reliable, independent source of COVID-19 data and security advice,” Lindsrom says. “As a normal globetrotter, I did my project to uncover the secrets of a safe journey, while telling very funny, if a little curious, stories along the way…”
Latitude and sustainability
In the future, many of us will begin to take our time to really think about our journey, rather than rushing on ad hoc travel without thinking for a moment. Huw and Rossella Beaugie, founders of The Thinking Traveller, hope the trend will increase: “We hope there will be a ‘slow movement’ in which other people stop in one place, know the local culture, traditions and know their fate. This will also allow other people to do more sustainably, taking one or two longer breaks instead of many weekend mini breaks, they will fly much less but will need to stay longer. With this in mind, we are offering our extended stay discounts for 2020. »
After surveying its customers, the luxury tour operator Original Travel agrees. Co-founder Tom Barber says: “Overall, we think we’ll see other people less and better. so spend more time and think more conscientiously about your vacation. This reflects the same instincts we have noticed that protect the sabbatical years, out of the ordinary – track destinations (to inspire sub-hiking) and slow – after all, we were the first British tour operator to launch luxury holidays only through exercise. And for those who need to fly, at least know that if they ebook with us, they will gain advantages from an accelerated security and registration procedure and have access to the room, which at least minimizes social contact.
One of the main trends that the company anticipates is philanthropic tourism – or “philanthropism” – opting for a holiday or a delight in a destination. “An evolution of volonturism, let alone a commitment, is just one way to reach the countries that have tourism and whose economies suffer the aftermath of terrorism, herbal errors and now pandemics. Sri Lanka is a fair example, having suffered two of the 3 in the following year. Original Travel had already noticed this as an emerging trend before the coronavirus arrived and there is no doubt that it will continue to grow once travel restrictions are lifted and others can help the maximum of affected countries. back on his feet.
Although it was already on the rise before the pandemic, sustainability is also a vital factor. “When asked how the pandemic would replace general habits, the maximum life reaction (30%) has been in favour of maruca in a more sustainable way,” says Barber. “Once again, Original Travel is ahead of the curve, having already brought only railway routes, particularly for those who wish to do so cleanly and ecologically. The new travel collection all depart from London and south to France, Spain and Italy, north of Scandinavia and east of Switzerland, Austria and Romania.
Those looking for the latest in sustainable destinations make a stopover on the idyllic island of Lido in the Stockholm archipelago. He partnered with The Scandinavian energy company Neste for a mission called Zero Island, in which they aimed to make the entire island fossil-free in a year. 18 other responses were found, ranging from non-fossil fuels for transportation to the installation of solar panels, air-water heat pumps and climate curtains in buildings. During the year, the allocation reduced emissions by 78%, from 180 tons of CO2 in 2018 to just 40 tonnes in 2019. Guests are encouraged to stop by, stay at the Lid-Vadshus Inn, enjoy fossil-free reports and check out a Zero Carbon Diet.
Costa Rica is another destination well known for its ecological references and pioneering ecotourism. However, this has not been the case. In the 1970s and 1980s, the country had one of the highest rates of deforestation in Latin America, but since then it has reversed this trend and has followed reforestation. He recently presented a pioneering proposal to reduce deforestation through the use of spatial and generation data generated through satellite imagery from the GEO-Google Earth Engine licensing program.
The initiative, entitled Combating Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Costa Rica using Google Earth Engine, was presented to the Earth Observation Group (GEO) as a component of a program in partnership with Google. The two organizations will offer 25 licenses for the continued use of the Google Earth Engine (GEE) for projects that use Earth knowledge to address demanding global situations similar to climate change, sustainable progression, and crisis threat reduction, among others. Two-year full-access licenses are designed to enable the public sector and advertising recipients to cope with significant social demand situations and improve understanding of our planet.
According to the tourist office, 60% of visitors to Costa Rica’s nature site as an explanation of why to come. National parks and spaces cover more than a quarter of the country’s land. Nayara Resorts is one of the destination hospitality logos committed to the cause of reforestation. Its new logo property, Nayara Tented Camp, is located on a hill that was completely cleared by farmers more than 50 years ago to become a pasture for livestock. Nayara hired a reforestation expert (Matthew Flynn from VIDA) and worked to rebuild the destroyed rainforest, planting 40,000 local trees and expanding the Nayara Springs sister property sloth sanctuary.
One of the positive aspects of proximity to visitors during Covid is that the terrain remained intact with the assets that gardeners had to have to take a look at the project. This, combined with normal rains, led to denser, greener and larger foliage. Wildlife is back on the hill with birds and monkeys making it your home. (Monkeys want a “runner” of trees to cross the rainforest.) This gives us hope for a better future.

Writing and finding the global is a natural thing for me. I have been a journalist for over 18 years, discovered in London, UK, and started with Marie Claire magazine writing the pages of London, then became editor-in-chief of In Britain, the British Tourist Authority magazine. After graduating from the London School of Printing with a postgraduate degree in journalism, I joined British Airways High Life magazine. During my 11 years in this title, I may be regularly discovered at an airport in the direction of places like Costa Rica, Montenegro or Mexico. For more than six years, I have been a freelance travel journalist, writing for a wide variety of titles, including Metro Newspaper, City AM Newspaper, Canary Wharf Magazine, Tatler’s Travel Guide, Harper’s Bazaar, The Jewish Chronicle and many other prints. and online outlets. I’m interested in new offers, attractive people, great design and, above all, authenticity. My experience is “luxury intelligence”: cool openings and new destinations. I have lived in Barbados and Vegreat, Italy, and I still travel a lot, occasionally with my circle of relatives in tow. I’ll never get tired of finding the global that surrounds me.
