The federal government declined to know that the alleged N42,000s were billed by the COVID-19 check through its authorized hospitals, even though it may not know how much personal hospitals would have to qualify for mandatory checkup for travellers traveling outside Nigeria.
The Nigerian Centers for Disease Control, NCDC, which said this in reaction to Vanguard’s investigation following judicial cases of arbitrary review through government hospitals, insisted that the COVID-19 check be free.
This position was given through NCDC spokeswoman Emeka Oguanuo, who explained that there are no government hospital fees or a payment for conducting the COVID-19 test.
Oguanuo said: “This traveler’s check is made particularly in personal laboratories and dependent personal laboratories. We know how much they value it.
“But if you go to the NCDC website, you will see approved personal laboratories in Nigeria and laboratories in our network. Our network has 69 recently.
“Possibly also direct this research to the PRESIDENTIAL PTF Working Group on COVID-19 because the TFP is the one that directed travelers to personal laboratories, not ncDC. If you stick to last Friday’s PTF briefing, you’ll find it was PTF that announced that travelers can move to personal hospitals and not NCDC.
“As far as we know, testing must be done in government and personal laboratories. In personal laboratories, whether for travelers or anyone else, this is done with a charge, but testing in public laboratories is free, adding remedies and everything in between. .
“It is because of the congestion that the TFP has ordered those wishing to take out the tests to use personal laboratories to be able to leave the public laboratories to others who need care. That’s the situation,” Oguanuo said.
According to the NCDC spokesman, the decision for travelers to access personal hospitals was taken to reduce congestion.
So far, all authorized personal laboratories are located on the outskirts of Abuja. Lagos has the highest concentration of personal hospitals authorized for the detection and treatment of the disease.
After speaking with the NCDC spokesman, Vanguard’s correspondent visited the National Reference Laboratory, NRL, located in Gadua, Abuja, citing a pressing desire to check abroad. Business district.
According to the board, our reporter visited the NCDC verification center, near the well-known International Conference Center, to request a check and earned an emergency number to call.
When he called the number, a firm official who answered the call asked him some questions and after being satisfied with his explanations and hearing that he was at the door, asked him to come home, a pattern that was then taken away from him. This is done for free.
Vanguard found that in the open air of personal hospitals, travelers desperate to get their check effects right away are forced to pay an exorbitant amount to download their discharge certificates, which most countries and airlines require as condition to fly and land in their fields. .
It will be recalled that some travelers arriving in the country had accused the Nigerian government of being consistent with allowing certain foreign airlines to rate them what they called “COVID-19 tariffs,” many of which complained of up to N 42,500 in accordance with what was agreed.
Travellers have criticized Nigeria for extortion, testing is conducted loosely through the respective countries from which they travel.
